How long does it take?

About 1.5 hours of self-paced online learning, plus a roughly 1-hour in-person skills clinic. Most families finish the whole program within a week.

Can a parent stay and watch?

Which schools accept the certificate?

Our certificate is recognized by approved partner school districts in the East Valley for student parking permits. See the home page for the current list, and always confirm with your specific school.

What kind of e-bike does my teen need?

Any legal Class 1, 2, or 3 e-bike: must have functional pedals, a motor of 750W or less, and a visible class sticker on the frame.

Can you train on a Sur-Ron or Talaria?

Accepted Answer

No. Sur-Ron, Talaria, and similar throttle-only bikes that exceed 750W or lack pedals are classified as motorcycles under AZ law and require a license, registration, and insurance — they're not eligible for our program.

Is a helmet required?

Yes. Helmets are mandatory for every rider in our clinic, regardless of age or e-bike class. Bring your own — we have loaners if needed.

Do you provide e-bikes?

Accepted Answer

Students should bring their own properly working e-bike. Reach out if that's a barrier — we have limited demo bikes for special cases.

What's the difference between Class 1, 2, and 3?

Class 1: pedal-assist only, motor cuts at 20 mph. Class 2: adds a throttle, also capped at 20 mph. Class 3: pedal-assist up to 28 mph; shared-use path access varies by local rules, though Gilbert specifically allows Class 3 e-bikes on shared-use and multi-use paths (not on sidewalks). Do teens need a license or registration?

No. Arizona treats Class 1, 2, and 3 e-bikes as bicycles — no driver's license, registration, or insurance required.

Can my teen ride on sidewalks in the East Valley?

Accepted Answer

Rules vary by city (Gilbert, Mesa, Chandler, Queen Creek). Generally yes outside business districts — but avoid sidewalks in busy commercial cores like Gilbert's Heritage District or downtown Chandler. Use the street or designated bike lane there.

What about the Riparian Preserve?

E-bikes are allowed on the perimeter trail with a posted sticker requirement; walk your bike in posted no-ride interior zones.

How do I pay?

After you submit enrollment, you'll pay securely through Stripe Checkout — credit/debit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Link. We never see your card details.

What's the refund policy?

All enrollments are final and non-refundable — it helps us hold your spot and keep classes small. That said, we'll happily reschedule you to another date at no extra cost if something comes up. Just reply to your confirmation email.

Are you affiliated with any city or town?

No. AZ E-Bike Academy is an independent training provider serving East Valley families — we are not affiliated with the Town of Gilbert, City of Mesa, City of Chandler, Town of Queen Creek, or any other municipality.
